Trained VAS volunteers call clients each week to socialize, check-in, share important community news, and provide a listening ear to clients. These phone calls, which can last up to 20 minutes, provide an opportunity for seniors, and homebound persons of any age, to visit and enjoy each other’s company while:
- Providing an opportunity to share about present and past hobbies, careers, interests, vacations, people, and places
- Providing news about local events including vaccine clinics, community arts events, and other opportunities for personal enrichment
- Providing an empathetic ear to clients’ concerns by the caller being an active listener
- Providing a link to resources available from Valley Assistance Services and other local, state, and national sources
